Garnering more than 70,000 points, and acing more than half of the events, University of the Philippines Psychology Majors Association (UPPsyMA) bagged the first spot during the Interpsych Olympics 2019 held at Southwestern University Phinma last March 10.
Dubbed as “UP Black Eagles”, the team edged nine universities during the event including the host school SWU Phinma Cobras, UC Arachnids, CNU Vixens, UV Butterflies, USJR Jaguars, USC Bears, CTU Wolves, USPF Panthers, and STC.
Out of nine competitions, UPPsyMA garnered first place in five: Mr. Interpsych Olympics 2019, Wacky Debate, Larong Pinoy, Amazing Race, and Best Cheer and Yell.
Ralph Christian Arco, a first-year psychology student, who was crowned Mr. Interpsych Olympics also won Best in Production Number while her partner Katrina Dalaota, a senior psychology student, finished as Ms. Interpsych 2019 2ND runner up.
“The experience was fun especially because we were able to meet and play with other psychology majors from other universities in Cebu, I did not expect us to bag a number of awards, even more, become overall champions of the event given that we all came there unprepared,” UPPsyMA Chairperson Julienne Gatoc said. “However, even when we were unprepared I know that my constituents were ready to give their all in the events that they participated and that they were all ready to fight just how iskolars are expected to be,” she added.
The League of Psychological Societies in Cebu organized the one-day event where Southwestern University claimed the second place, and Cebu Normal University took the third spot for the overall results.
